There’s one in every crowd. The Apostles are peering through the dark at the person (hallucination? demon? ghost?) walking toward them over the water. Peter decides to resolve the debate by getting out of the boat! “Lord, if it is you …” Then, teetering on a wave, he panics: What if it isn’t?
Who hasn’t made an impulsive decision? (Who hasn’t doubted its wisdom after that first watery step?) Impulses to do good, for us as for Peter, can be invitations from the Lord. Come! Today, give a dollar to the guy with the cardboard sign; call an old friend; give a compliment. Trust enough to follow that good impulse.
