December 31: Feast of the Holy Family

Gen. 15:1-6; 21:1-3; Col 3:12-17; Lk 2:22-40

Abraham, Sarah, Mary, Joseph and Jesus of Nazareth are icons for each of us today as we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. They are our examples of how to live our faith and how to be more human.

We are one family as humanity, together with creation. We inhabit the same Common Home. May this feast today lead us to become aware of this and to live from the values of the Gospel that today’s second reading mentions: mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, love, peace, gratitude.

Like Ann and Simeon, who bless God because their eyes behold the child Jesus, may we also bless and appreciate the life we contemplate daily in every being.
