Is 61:1-2, 10-11; 1Thess 5:16-24; Jn 1:6-8, 16-24
Today is the third Sunday of Advent, or “Gaudete” Sunday, which means “rejoice” or “be joyful,” as the second reading of this day reminds us. Therefore, may our life reflect joy and may we be able to spread it to others from our Christian faith.
The first reading gives us several reasons to rejoice and celebrate: the announcement that, with Jesus of Nazareth, a being accompanied by the Spirit, comes liberation, good news for the poor, comfort for those who mourn, healing for the brokenhearted. Those who meet Jesus live this experience announced by the prophet Isaiah.
John the Baptist is a witness of Jesus of Nazareth as the coming light. Like John and Isaiah, let us be heralds of good news, celebrating with joy and hope.
