First Sunday of Advent: “Come Down!”

From the first reading of the First Sunday of Advent we read:

“That you would tear the heavens open and come down. At your Presence the mountains would melt.”

We pray for God to come down to end our warring, to feed our hungry, to bring security to everyone’s home and homeland, and to bring to the One Table the excluded and marginated.

As we wait for God to come, let us tear open our own heavens and come down to be the presence of God for whom we long. Let us make war impossible in our world. Let us eliminate hunger. Let us make everyone’s home and homeland safe. Let us invite everyone to the One Table of God’s Reign. Then we will know that the Presence of God has melted our mountains and torn open our heavens.
