Easter Sunday, April 4: Celebrate! A Sunday Scriptures blog

I love 1 Cor 5:6-8, one of the selections for the second reading of Easter day Mass. It is all about feasting. Yum! It is about yeast leavening dough — an image of how the kingdom grows, slowly, but inexorably, but also an image of how we gradually grow in holiness throughout our lives. Then there is Christ “our paschal lamb” mentioned, more food and then the command: “…therefore let us celebrate the feast!” I feel blessed to have happy memories of special foods connected with Easter, especially my grandmother’s Italian raisin bread. Even if you happen to be alone on Easter, treat yourself and feast. For we celebrate today that this bodily life of ours that feasts is only the beginning of a future life of feasting, in a kingdom we can only dimly, very dimly, grasp.
