On our way

wheatAs we remember those who have gone before us and leaving us their example, I keep thinking that all of us are “on our way.” Just recently I attended a national conference which had as its thrust, “missionary discipleship.” For me these two themes fit together for several reasons. Since our baptism we have been chosen to be disciples and to be missionaries, that is, to be on our way, living the way that Jesus taught us. At this conference there were people from all across the United States as well as from all corners of the world. During these days we were as “one people,” all missionary disciples of Jesus. The language, the accent, the color, the culture was a rich diversity which brought us together to engage in a common mission. It was like a bit of heaven! Isn’t heaven where all of us will be united with each other, washed in the Blood of the Lamb, and singing the praises of God’s love! So as we continue remembering our dear friends who are enjoying the presence of God and how they are one with one another, let’s be on our way to create a little bit of heaven right where we are.
