January 4, 2022
Gratefully there have not been any official homicide rulings this last month of 2021. From January 2021 to December 31, 2021, we have had a total of 35 homicides in Dayton proper, Trotwood, Harrison and Jefferson Townships. There were 52 reported during that period of 2020. Unlike many cities, our local communities have seen a decrease. Let us be grateful for all those departments and personnel who make it a priority to keep us safe. Sadly, as of January 2, one homicide has occurred. During a prayer service held by our Sisters on December 31, the following reflection was a reminder of how Christmas continues. The work of Christmas begins: When the carols have been stilled, When the star-topped tree is taken down, When family and friends are gone home, When we are back to our schedules. The work of Christmas begins: To welcome the refugee, To heal a broken planet, To feed the hungry, To build bridges of trust, not walls of fear, To share our gifts, To seek justice and peace for all people, To bring Christ's light to the world. May Christmas be in our hearts and lives throughout this New Year!
