Virtual Homicide Vigil

Our lives are affected by the violence around us, whether it be from watching the news or from the death of someone close to us in an act of brutality. The Sisters of the Precious Blood want to express our solidarity with those who have lost a loved one to violence by praying for your families and community. In 1994, we initiated prayer at homicide sites in Dayton, Ohio—now we want to open up our prayer to the world. Join us as we step toward ending violence in our world.

This is a place for prayer, meditation, spiritual healing, and to connect with God. View the candles below to see other prayers. When you’re ready, click on the button below to share your prayer request.

Compassionate God, we come to you in sorrow for our brother, Detective Jorge DelRio, who gave his life in service to the people of our Dayton community. We thank you for his 30 years of dedicated service with the Dayton police. Even in death he gave life through his organ donations. Please be with his family and the police officers who mourn his death. Comfort them and strengthen them in the faith that life is changed, not taken away. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. May he rest in peace. Amen.

15! 15 police officers killed in the line of duty in the last 39 days. How long O Lord? Welcome these officers into your embrace as they serve and protect from your heavenly realm. Bring strength and healing to their families whose hearts are torn with questioning and anger. Bring courage and hope to members of their departments who continue to dedicate themselves to protect us from danger and violence. Bring compassion to the perpetrators and families engulfed in pain.

Lord, console and heal all children who suffer violence at the hands of those who are meant to protect and care for them. Hold back the hands of those who would harm your children and lead them to such a conversion of heart that they might never raise a hand to any child ever again. We thank you, Lord, for your love and your grace.
