Archdiocese celebrates CPPS Sisters, a Laudato Si community

The Sisters of the Precious Blood, along with 12 other congregations and parishes, participated in a Laudato Si prayer service at the Community of the Good Shepherd in Cincinnati on June 18. The inaugural event, led by Archbishop Dennis Schnurr, celebrated each participant’s commitment to creation care and sustainability and their distinction of becoming archdiocesan Laudato Si communities.

The Sisters received this distinction by virtue of meeting qualifications in the new archdiocesan Laudato Si communities program. The qualifications included completing facility and household green assessments, beginning or improving upon sustainable practices and educating members on creation care topics.

Participants were recognized for their individual achievements in sustainability by Tony Stieritz, director of the Catholic Social Action Office in the Archdiocese. The CPPS Sisters received acknowledgment for energy improvements to their buildings through the use of geothermal and solar technology, in particular.

The Congregation was presented with a banner identifying them as a Laudato Si community in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The banner is currently displayed in the dining room at Salem Heights in Dayton. It serves as a source of pride for all that the CPPS have achieved in this area, as well as a reminder to continually strive to care for the earth and its resources on which we all depend.
