CPPS statement on Chauvin verdict

The Sisters of the Precious Blood affirm the decision of the jury to find Derek Chauvin guilty of the murder of George Floyd. We are grateful that the defendant has been found accountable in this case, and we resolve to continue to strive for justice and equality for all.

As a Catholic women’s religious congregation, we are motivated by the redeeming love of Jesus, whose blood poured out for us on the cross. Our foundress, Maria Anna Brunner, felt called to do whatever she could so that “not one drop of Precious Blood be shed in vain.” In response to the cry of the Blood, and together with our neighbors, we renew our prayers that all people may be given the respect to which they are entitled by their very humanity. We also renew our efforts, in our lives and ministries, to do all we can to confront injustice, eradicate racism and effect systemic change.
