Theology and Our Spirituality

Our mission calls us, as Sisters of the Precious Blood, to “proclaim God’s love by being a life-giving, reconciling presence in our fractured world.” Some Precious Blood Sisters minister as theologians, chaplains, spiritual directors and pastoral advisers. Wherever and however we may be called, throughout our lives and our ministry, in all that we are and all that we do, proclaiming God’s love is both our foundation and our goal.

Sister Joyce Ann Zimmerman

Sister Joyce Ann is founding director of the Institute for Liturgical Ministry in Dayton, an adjunct professor of liturgy, a frequent speaker and facilitator of workshops, and a prolific author, editor and collaborator. She holds a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from St. Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario, and a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Ottawa.

Over the past two decades, Sister Joyce Ann has also received awards from the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions, Georgetown Center for Liturgy, Notre Dame Center for Liturgy, and the Catholic Press Association. In 2020, the North American Academy of Liturgy named her the recipient of the 2020 Berakah Award, which is given to liturgists in recognition of distinguished contribution to the professional work of liturgy. Sister Mary Garascia

Sister Mary is a regular contributor to Inland Catholic Byte, the newspaper of the Diocese of San Bernardino, California, with the column “Journey Toward Holiness.” Originally from Cincinnati, she earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Dayton; completed postgraduate courses in sociology at Arizona State University; earned a master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University; and earned a Ph.D. in religious and philosophical studies in a joint program at the University of Denver and the Iliff School of Theology. Sister Mi-Kyoung Hwang

Sister Mi-Kyoung entered the Congregation in 2019 and currently ministers as an adjunct faculty member and theological reflection facilitator at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, as well as serving as a spiritual director, retreat facilitator and Restorative Justice Circle Keeper. Originally from South Korea, she came to the U.S. in 2013 to earn a Doctor of Ministry in Spirituality degree at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Sister Judy Niday

Sister Judy entered the Congregation in 1974 and began ministry as a teacher, serving in a variety of roles and locations. In 1995, she returned to school as a student and completed a program in clinical pastoral education. Since then, she has served as a chaplain, spiritual care coordinator and spiritual adviser at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton; the Jesuit Spiritual Center in Milford, Ohio; Mercy Siena Woods, an assisted living facility in Dayton; and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, among others. Sister Rita Manriquez

Originally from Valparaiso, Chile, Sister Rita Manríquez Silva met the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1989 through vocational meetings. Sister Rita has served in several parishes in Santiago, specifically in the Municipality of La Florida, performing pastoral services such as children’s catechist for First Communion and youth pastoral adviser, and accompanying participants in retreats and conferences for Precious Blood spirituality groups, accompanying small Christian communities, preparing youth for confirmation, supporting Ignatian weekend retreats and many more.
