Ready for Spring

daffodils-in-snow_pkFor those of us in Ohio, “I’m ready for spring!!!” is a refrain that is heard almost everywhere you go. This last snowfall seems to have tipped even the hardiest winter-lover over the edge into a longing for warm breezes, sunshine, long days and flowers and trees in bloom. For those of us with the luxury of four distinct seasons, we can often yearn for the one that isn’t here just yet. It reminds me of the little ditty we recited as children, “As a rule man is a fool, when it’s hot he wants it cool. When it’s cool he wants it hot. Always wanting what it’s not.” (Apologies to those who are sensitive to inclusive language.) Wanting, longing, yearning are movements of the heart that can either paralyze us and make us miserable or can fill us with energy to move beyond where we are at any given moment. Not wanting to be a fool, for now I’ll yearn for spring, but will also get my flower seeds bought and planted indoors, sharpen my gardening tools and keep watch for the green, purple, white and yellow of early spring.
