Moving on

roadToday in the U.S., we celebrate the feast of the Ascension. Dismay is a feeling that I always have when I hear the in the Ascension reading that “… as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.” Oh, no! And so wrenching was it for the on lookers that the same “two men in white garments” who were at the tomb on Resurrection morning had to intervene again: “Men of Galilee why are you standing there looking at the sky” they ask? Like Mary Magdalene, I want to cling to the Jesus I have come to know; like these Ascension watchers, I don’t want to “move on” to new and different insights and faith experiences. We can get comfortable in our religiousness just as much as we can get comfortable in our food preferences or TV choices! It is always good, therefore, to put ourselves in the path of something that prompts us to grow — belonging to a prayer group, a bible study, a small faith community, reading a spiritual book, going on retreat … After all, Jesus is the Way, not a stop sign.

Who is the current Sister Superior of the Precious Blood Convent in Dayton Ohio? I went to grade school with Judith Merkle a neighbor as a child and I was recently told that she had become a Superior at this convent just trying to touch base.

  3. Hello, Sharon. Sister Joyce Lehman is the current President of the Sisters of the Precious Blood.
